Career Network Scam

Have you ever heard of Career Network? If not then you may or may know if you can remember getting a call about a job. You could've even got a text saying to call some number for a job. Well I honestly used to work for them. Why? Well I needed a job and with the economy the way it is. That was the only job I could find. Plus at the time I didn't know it was even that job it was misleading when I applied. Anyway when I talked to applicants many of them thought they applied for a real job. I at first thought it was real myself. Then started to get suspicious when there were more compaints and did a little research online and learned of the scams it was doing. However, I guess in legal terms from my part that I knew we weren't doing anything illegal. The verification specialist just verifys your "job application" then there was a part they told us goes to the education line. Once we were finished with verifying we would try to see if they wanted to further their education. Most people don't and that's okay. So during the process we would motivate them to go back and answer what they wanted to be. Then get them to call a 1-800 number which was to call someone for talking about school. From them we would hope that it would go through and they accepted to go to school because then we would get money. That was how we were payed and honestly it was grueling work with no benefits and nothing but commission only and getting many applications per day and sometimes getting nothing for the day. It is sick what they did but again that was the only job I could find and was hiring. So where the scam part? Well in the beginning of the few months I worked there it seemed that they illegalized a dialer system. This dialer system was where telemarketers or whoever can't call you on a system that just shot out your number and called it and we picked up. We never called them but the system did and many people don't like it when they are called. Especially those on the west side of the US because if it was 9am here it was 6 am there and trust me there are alot of unhappy people then. Well I would be the same way to. lol (which i appologize for everyone I talked to and even though you may not know me and i dnt know you for talking to you and missleading you) Then another scam part is that the people of Career Network sold your information. I heard on the local news here that they tried to sell your info to schools and thats why they wanted you so much to go back to school for the money and thats it. On the job we had a script on the screen telling us what to say each minute especially if there were questions. We also had some printed copys of questions and answers that people ask alot and were prepped to know what to say at that moment. Some questions and answers asked were:

1. "Who is the employer?" Well I don't have the name of the employer itself because we are contracted by thousands of employers nation wide.

2. "Where is the job located?" The job should be located within 25 miles of your home address.

3. "How did you get my info?" You applied for it online. (sometimes it would be longer and they would ask "Well I don't remember applying for it where did you get it? then we would say well we are on many websites so I can't pinpoint where exactly."

4. "Who are you?" I'm so and so with Career Network

5. "What does the job entitle? (such as pay and whatnot)" Well I don't have that information because we are contracted by thousands of employers nationwide but I do know that once they see your application and if interested they will contact you. From there they will be happy to answer and questions pertaining to the job.

Many questions such as those I was prepped to know and ready to answer. They sound very good right? If you were to talk to someone you may be like "Wow! They seem legit!" However, they are not. Even the employees of the company such as myself were never given who the employers are. They just said that there are real jobs. The managers just told us bogus stories. Plus one weird thing was that they changed their name at the company. I'm not saying Career Network was changed because it remained the same. I'm saying that the company was called "Three Stars Inc." or "Three Stars Media" then they then changed it and currently is "The Internet Company". That sent red flags again as of why would they change their name. Then in changing their name they changed their location. They were in one building in metrowest to another in a differnt location.

The main thing I want to address is if you get a call from them is just tell them your not interested instead of cursing or yelling because they are humans to you know? Then hang up and call whoever such as the BBB or the cops or whoever is in charge and can do something about it.

I am doing my part and going on many sites and telling people (and yes I am anonomous in most) to say that its a scam and dont trust them. I am also (yes I may b extreme) but go on my local news in florida and tell people. Most likely they would be happy to do an interview with me because if you go onto Youtube.com and type in the search of "Career Network" you will find people who were on florida news and telling people its a scam. So if I ever do that I will record it and post it on youtube and show you viewers as of proof. lol.

Though for more scams I will be letting you know in the future of my random blog. Hope this helps you all! Just be safe and careful in the real and cyber world!

UPDATE: Thank you readers for your comments and will do an updated post for all your questions and try to answer them. :-) Also, for those still looking for work please type in in the search bar to your right for careers you can work from home that aren't scams. Search in "Work At Home" and you will find a list from a post I have set up that has some companies you can work for. You can also search in "Empoyers Looking to Hire" for a list of local companies that you can apply with such as walmart, target, kmart, etc. w/o going to your local store itself.

Also this company has been called as "softrock" "gigats" "the internet company", as well as "three stars inc" any of those companies that call you hang up.

  7. yes they paid by commission only. so if you went so far as to talking about going to school to "further their education" and they called some 800 number you gave them then you may get that deal. nothing like hourly tho. i mean im not saying not to apply with them or anything just be careful and also if they text or call you tell them no a simple no will stop the conversation right there.

  8. Well I guess I just joined a sad group of people so obviously scammed by Employer Network. Being a college graduate with many years work experience, I sure don't need or desire any further education. I just need a job. An honest to God, 8 hour day, decent paying job to support my family. It sickens me to see how many unemployed people are desperately seeking a job to put food on their tables and clothes on their childrens back and have to deal with scum like these people. I just hung up the phone with them thinking it was legit and immediately received 2 emails from them which I will now delete after reading the above comments from all of the above people. Good luck to us all!

  9. Thank you for informing the rest of us as to this issue. I was about to respond to 2 e-mails from Career-Network reps, but something told me to check it out before I did.
Thanks again for saving myself and others a lot of time and aggravation. Wish there were more folks like you out there.

  10. Wow, I must say disappointing. I did find it a bit strange to not say a name of a company or its location. I want to contact them so bad and give them a piece of my mind. I got my hopes up but thanks to you and all others, you saved me time and energy. Most of all, embarrassment.
    Thank you.

  11. I usually find it as a rule of thumb, that if in the application process they have 1 or more questions about the possibility of you pursuing your education in the near future; that they are a site like this one, and will just start spamming you with college stuff. Tip, just be wary of the ones that focus on your college and the possibility of pursuing more.

  12. Thanks. This explains both a puzzling email I received today and a completely baffling phone call I got from Kaplan. They claimed that I'd inquired online about finishing my GED--I have a Master's degree.

  13. Also on craiglist people post bogus ads jst so you have to go to career network. They say it helps manage their applications. This career network is bogus BS and the BBB is going to hear from me.

  14. I got an email today. Usually I don't look up companies to see what they are about. I have been unemployed for 4 months and this sounded to good to be true. The wanted someone with administrative office skills and again they also talk about furthering my education. Just a bizzare feeling. Thank goodness I looked them up and found this blog. This is terrible to prey on people who just want to earn an honest living. Now I am afraid that they have my information to sell. They do not have my phone number but I am sure that they will find it.

  15. I answered what appeared to be a legit ad for a local company. They sold my email address to some marketing group. Every hour of the day, on the hour, I was getting 4-10 ads emailed to me, so they were clogging my Blackberry with ads. These guys are pure slime!

  16. Luckily I Googled this company before moving forward with a job response I received. I did this because I received two job responses and both pointed me to the same company that I had never heard of...how ironic. I have never seen so many scams, it is sickening! I got on that education list after being contacted by Infiniti Staffing (another scam). Now I get three or four calls per day about going to school. :-(

  17. I hope this post has effected people in someway or another and I at the time wasn't able to say anything about it. Now that I'm out I can and I hope that after all of you have read it that you are more aware and don't trust who these people are. They just want to see your info to a school and in return they get money. REMEMBER any employ you to go to school. Also NEVER pay for a job. As in for an application of any sort. They will take the money and run.

  18. It is a shame there are so many scams out there trying to capitalize on the unemployed seeking work. Thank you for the insight on this scam.

  20. Thanks for the post. I just got a text from Career Network and thought it was funny that they didn't mention the job that was applied for or any type of information other than a phone number. Before I called the number, I thought I would do some research online and came accross your post. I really hated applying for any jobs online, but with the way society is going, that is how most people are posting positions. Since I've started applying online I have received more spam than ever. Thank you again!

  24. I am looking for a job and have applied, unfortunately, on-line to many job websites, since no one actually advertises for employment in the paper anymore, and half of these companies do not tell you who they are, before getting all your info. Anyway, on all of these websites, they ask if you want to further your education, I always indicate no. No sooner do I hit the enter button, I get muliple phone calls from some company called "EDUCATION NETWORK". They are rude and refuse to take my number off their call list. I have filed a complaint with the FTC. I don't know if this is the same company as CAREER NETWORK, but it sure sounds like it. I figure, I still have not found a job, but maybe I can start making money off these people calling me constantly, legally. Sad, it seems that these are independant telemarketers calling me, different phone#, and it seems that they have no supervision when calling people. I bet they are just doing this work at home, telemarketing and how can they know if they are calling someone on a do not call list??? Makes me wonder. I will report everyone that calls me, since they have to legally stop calling you once you tell them to "put me on your do not call list" and I am on the Federal Do Not Call List. Sad thing is, no one seems to know the full name of the actual company they work for. If you look it up, there is no company just called "Education Network", there are hundred, of them, but none that are just "Education Network"...So, sadly, the people calling for them are the ones that are going to get nailed legally for calling people. I am not the only one to have reported them. If you look up (Google) the phone # they call you from, you can see how many times that specific person calling you has been reported. I know people need money, but there has got to be a better way.!!!!

  26. PLEASE READ. There is a lot more to this, I started investigating over six years ago when first laid off, and can't believe Career Network Inc. is still out there, Alec Defrawi, but goes by many aliases, accidentally used a wrong email when communicating with me, I was able to trace back to a Talent Agency under investigation found his real name then traced him to Lou Pearlman, partner, boy band manager that got 25 years in Florida for fake talent agency scheme, sadly Pearlman discovered Back Street Boys and NSync. Career Network is finally getting some legal action but I was able to link him to Pearlman he als spent time in jail for child abouse, his personal website he wants to run for senator or congressman, and I caught him advertising on eastern college site, I have tracked Defrawi for years, his mother is also involved. 2 newspaper reporters followed him years ago San Francisco and Florida, and I found a possible link through one guy that traces all computer fraud to possible russian computer mob ring. stay away and warn your friends. here is latest report from RIPOFF Report.com the only good website for reporting as the federal govnt will look at it. I am a fomer mortgage fraud investigator and helped identity theft victims. use your common sense. http://www.ripoffreport.com/directory/lou-pearlman.aspx

  27. thank u for whoever posted the comment above mine. i have discovered that information as well and will put in a new post about those findings and if you would like I can give you credit. thank you again! :) why is that the only good website btw (ripoffreport.com)?

    ReplyDelete
  28. There are no direct ties to Pearlman with the softrock/gigats company, but a number of people that used to work for pearlman now work for this company. Ironic that they also moved in to pne of Talent Rocks old offices in Metro West.

Sad to see that some people never change (Alec) and that some that worked for Pealrman felt it was ok to do it all again.
