Everything We Know So Far About the Delta Plane Crash in Toronto



A Delta Airlines flight crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport yesterday afternoon.1 The plane, a Bombardier CRJ-900, flipped onto its roof during the landing.2 All 80 people on board were evacuated from the aircraft, and at least 18 were taken to the hospital with injuries.

What Happened?

Delta Flight 4819 was arriving from Minneapolis, Minnesota.3 The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. Eastern time. The plane landed on a snow-covered runway and then flipped over.4

What We Know So Far

  • All 80 people on board - 76 passengers and four crew members - were evacuated from the aircraft.5
  • At least 18 people were taken to the hospital with injuries.6
  • The cause of the crash is under investigation.
  • The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is leading the investigation, with assistance from the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA.7
  • Delta Airlines has released a statement saying that their "primary focus is taking care of those impacted."8
